The Council exists as a community service organization, dedicated to the promotion of economic development on the local level. As a result, every bona fide economic development organization representing a city, county, multi-county area, state or multi-state region is automatically a member of the Council.

Utilities, transportation authorities, selected educational institutions and others with economic development interests or functions are also eligible for associate membership, upon application. For details, see Member Registration.

Not all EDOs participate in the Council at the same level of activity. The Council, therefore, has a variety of membership levels in order to be as flexible as possible, in keeping with its mission.

All members of NCFEDO enjoy direct access to the benefits and services of the Council. There are, however, certain benefits of concerted local action that may be obtained by the formation of state chapters.

It is important to stay abreast of changes and developments on the state level. To assist in this process, the Council will organize state executive committees, and urges interested members to join.
